Laminate Products Glossary
There are currently 28 definitions in this directory
A2LA
American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) is a non-profit society that recognizes competent testing and calibration laboratories, inspection bodies, proficiency testing providers and reference material producers.
Accreditation
Lamart is ISO 9001 and AS9100 registered, meaning that our quality assurance process is recognized as safe and adhering to best practices.
Acrylic Adhesive
A pressure-sensitive adhesive formed by the polymerization of acrylic ester monomers. These adhesives exhibit high temperature resistance, excellent U.V. resistance and good aging characteristics. Requires 24-48 hours to reach maximum bond strength.
Adhesive Residue Removal
Many Lamart products are permanent adhesives that require a strong solvent to remove. Examples of solvents to remove these adhesives from metal would be MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) or Toluene. Be warned that solvents can damage or remove many surfaces and that the surface to be cleaned should be tested first. Follow all MSDS/label precautions for safe handling and use of any solvent used.
Adhesive Types
Lamart manufactures silicone, rubber, and acrylic pressure sensitive adhesives for foam, film, and transfer tapes.
CFC (Chlorofluorocarbons)
Lamart products do not have CFCs; however, they may occur naturally in raw material. The levels in these materials are generally undetectable.
Double Coated
A pressure sensitive adhesive with a carrier with similar or dissimilar adhesives applied on both sides.
Heavy Metals
(are defined as Lead, Mercury, Antimony, Bismuth, Arsenic, etc.) Lamart products do not contain heavy metals; however, these substances may be naturally occurring and/or be present in a raw material below detectable/reportable limits. We are RoHS and REACH compliant.
IMDS (International Materials Data System)
IMDS is a material data system in the automotive industry. All materials used to manufacture a car are stored in this system. For any inquiries into Lamart products IMDS numbers, please reach out to customer service.
ISO 9001: 2000 Certified
We are ISO certified and being ISO certified means that the quality management systems standards are met - our facility and processes are designed to ensure our customers that our process is of the highest quality. You can reach out to our team for further documentation.
Latex and Natural Rubber
Our products do not contain latex or natural rubber - but these do sometimes appear in raw materials at indetectable amounts.
Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds)
Low VOC means volatile organic compounds that are not harmful to the environment and humans such as paints and other products that have a very low or zero VOC.. Low VOCs are good for both the environment and living organisms so here at Lamart we ensure that our products are Low VOC.
Pressure Sensitive Adhesive
A term used for the category of adhesive tapes that require no activation by an external force like water, solvent, or heat, and are permanently tacky at room temperature. They adhere to many surfaces with just the press of a finger or hand.
PSTC
The Pressure Sensitive Tape Council is the North American trade association for tape manufacturers and affiliate suppliers, dedicated to helping the industry produce quality pressure sensitive adhesive tape products in the global marketplace. We are a member of PSTC and proudly incorporate their practices into ours.
RoHS
Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive that all of Lamart’s products and practices adhere to.
Rubber-Based Adhesive
Not to be exposed to UV rays or used with plasticizers, this adhesive is made with either natural or synthetic rubbers. It has a high initial tack and a decent shear strength and temperature resistance.
Service Temperature
We use this metric to help describe and characterize adhesives temperature resistance and work together with customers to determine which temperature would be best for their product to work under. The practical service temperature of any adhesives system is reliant on the suvrates being bonded, environment, and loading method.
Shelf Life
Our products have a shelf life of one year, after which point, they are considered expired and not recommended for use.
Silicone
Lamart manufactures silicone adhesives and also uses it in release coating for liner production. It is used in the manufacturing of pressure sensitive adhesives, as well.
Single Coated Tape
This tape is one sided and as such only has adhesive applied to one side. Contact sales for more detailed information.
Slitting Width
Our minimum and maximum slitting widths vary by product. Refer to our other resources here for a more detailed breakdown.
Storage Conditions
We recommend storage conditions between 60 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Ideally, 75 degrees Fahrenheit at 50% Humidity. Products should be stored out of direct sunlight and any rolled product should be stored upright.
Surface Energy
SE in dynes/cm is a measure of an adhesive’s ability to wet out over a surface it’s applied to. Substrates that have a low surface energy aka LSE do not easily allow adhesives to wet out while materials with a high surface energy HSE are a better bonding option. Rubber based adhesives bond better to LSE and generally speaking some LSE substrates can improve with time.
